My Musings: Why Typewriters?

Hi everyone,

Happy voting day in the US. Did you go and vote? Our voting center is a block from our houses, so we walked there before starting work. It was painless, and I always feel a sense of accomplishment afterwards.

The question for this post is:

Why typewriter? What do you like about them?

I love typewriters. I feel like I need to go to confession, but there I said it out loud. I don't know why I was initially drawn to them, but it has progressed into a passion. Maybe, you feel the same way. Maybe?

My reasons for liking typewriters are:

1. They have more soul than a computer.
2. They come in pretty colors. I have a couple of blacks, this green one, a teal, and a few grays. Just go on Instagram and checkout #typewriterrevolution or #typewriter to see all the pretty typewriters. It's a feast for the eyes.
3. It cuts down on screen time. Paper doesn't cause the eye strain my laptop screen does.
4. It feels like I am actually creating something with my fingers.
5. I love the sound of the slugs hitting the paper. There is something hypnotic about it. And the little bell is nice too.

and last but not least!!!!!

6. Type writer people are really cool. Everyone I've met has been really friendly and awesome.

Not to that laptop people aren't great too. They just seem so stuck on how many words they can write or how many books they can release in a year. Maybe, I hang out with the wrong writers.  :)

It is not the worse thing in the world to slow and actually enjoy the process of literally putting words on paper, crafting a story. Love writing for the simple joy of writing. I think if more people did that, the burnout of Indie authors would be less. That is a discussion for another day.

So back to you. Why do you love typewriters? Or if you haven't tried one, why not? Or do you, gasp, think that they are a silly hobby?  (I hope you don't think that. If you do, why are you reading this blog?)

Keep typing,
On a Royal QDL
